Catching the Movement of the Tide

In this project the brief was to create 100 informative posters that show a natural cycle. I chose to look at the cycles of the tide and how it is connected to the cycles of the moon.

I felt the best way to do this was to work with the actual tide, letting the sea wash up to and over my paper, then dropping inks onto the bottom edge and let the water do the rest. To see the ebb and flow of the tide, I used a 40 metre roll of paper, which when divided at 40cm gave me the correct amount of posters. Screen print was used to add details of high and low tides, and the connection to the lunar cycle. The reaction of the salt water and sand with the inks have made an amazing effect with colour and patterns.
